A large number of people turned out for the ‘Swachhata Marathon’ organized by Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) as part of Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 on Sunday.
Nearly four thousand participants competed in 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters runs organized for different categories during the Swachhata Marathon, which was flagged off from the Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple near the Mysuru Palace early on Sunday morning.
Mysuru district in-charge minister HC Mahadevappa called off the event in the presence of Krishnaraja assembly constituency MLA TS Srivatsa, noted sculptor Arun Yogiraj and other dignitaries.
Mr. Mahadevappa said the city has already earned national recognition as a clean city twice. “This time we have to try to secure the top rank again and bring more accolades to Mysuru,” he said.
Mr. Arun Yogiraj encouraged the participants by saying that staying active and spending time in the fields helps people maintain good health.
Prizes, medals and certificates were distributed to the winners in various categories by Mr. Arun Yogiraj, Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, MCC Commissioner Shaikh Tanveer Asif, Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Balalandi and other dignitaries.
A statement issued by the MCC commissioner said the marathon was run as an eco-friendly event, generating only 473 kg of wet waste.
