It was around 7:40 pm on Thursday when the traffic at Paradise Junction started slowing down as the Hanuman Jayanti procession approached, capping off a day of massive celebrations in Hyderabad that had begun a few hours earlier under the afternoon sun.
With each passing hour in the evening, the police presence at the intersection steadily increased and around 7:30 p.m., 80 to 100 personnel, including senior officers, were deployed to control the movement of the crowd and vehicles.
