The movement of vehicles on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru motorway (NH75), one of the busiest roads, was hit on Thursday by a landslide near Maranahalli in Sakleshpur. Hundreds of passengers were stuck in operation overnight between center and Thursday.
According to local people, landslides occurred on Wednesday evening in several places between Sakaleshpur and Mararanahali. Local officials stopped the movement of vehicles by placing barricades to avoid other undesirable incidents.
The soil nows were reported in Heggadde, Donigal and Doddathapale near Sakaleshpur. Hundreds of vehicles, including luxury KSRTC buses, trucks and cars, were stuck on the highway for several hours. Passengers spent all night in vehicles in the middle of heavy rains.
Long hours to clean the debris were worked by officers of the income department, police, forests, the National Motorway Office of India and other agencies. The Hassan deputy Commissioner of the KS Lathakumar on Thursday morning issued an order devastating vehicles commuting on alternative routes. She visited the place and said that the administration identified 12 points vulnerable to landslides in the section.
Meanwhile, three of the four routes between Belagavi and Goa were closed due to heavy rain on Wednesday.
