Landslides hit the Karmatar and Upper Bullung areas of West Sikkim, officials said on Tuesday (15 Sep 2026).
“The landslide occurred below a local school in Karmatar village on Monday (September 14) around 10:20 am,” they said.
“The slide was spotted from SSB ‘G’ Company post at Intake, after which a rescue team was mobilized to the affected area,” they said.
“There were no casualties or injuries,” they added.

In coordination with the civil administration and local residents, the team preemptively rescued people from a residential building directly above the landslide zone.
“Meanwhile, local residents alerted the SSB about another landslide at Upper Bullung where debris blocked the road,” officials said.
SSB Company Commander and Sub Divisional Magistrate visited the area. They said that although the road remains blocked to vehicular traffic, no casualties or property damage have been reported.
“Heavy earth-moving machinery has been taken out to clear the debris and restore traffic,” officials said.
