Land trade is behind their blacklisting: BRS leaders

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders KT Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao on Friday alleged that the Congress rule was centered around land and that was the reason why the extent of land in the prohibited list under Section 22A of the Registration Act has increased from 16 lakh acres during the previous government to 1.16 lakh acres now.

A large number of 22A victims from areas in and around the city vented their woes after their land was blacklisted.

Interacting with the victims of 22A here, they said that the Congress government, with a single stroke of a pen, has thrown families with rights over their lands for generations into limbo.

Mr. Harish Rao alleged that the government had mortgaged 400 acres of land to the University of Hyderabad Bombay Stock Exchange, borrowed ₹10,000 crore at an interest rate of 9.5% and paid another ₹200 crore to brokers who arranged the mortgage. Similarly, another 8,000 acres in Medchal district were pledged to BSE to borrow another ₹10,000 crore. The government had also restored 100 acres of the Agricultural University land and was now looking at the polytechnic land.

He further said that behind the Musi beautification project was a 3,000-acre land deal and that the government had taken over the Hyderabad Metro Rail in respect of the 280 acres of land allotted to it. About 40,000 acres in Yadadri district have been placed on the prohibited list.

Mr KT Rama Rao alleged that the Chief Minister had donated land worth ₹200 crore in Future City for just ₹7 crore to his sibling’s firm. He explained that 800 acres of land in Lingapuram in Sircilla constituency and 100 acres in Kongara Kalan have been included in the prohibited list with a plan to sell them to private parties at throwaway prices”.
