Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmad emphasized the need for concerted efforts to regain Hyderabad’s leading position in urban transport. He said land acquisition for Phase 2 of Hyderabad Metro has already started while the government has also approved acquisition for other corridors which will be started soon.
Recalling Hyderabad’s pioneering role in the development of metro rail, Mr. Ahmad noted that though the city was among the first to start the metro project with Phase 1, its network remained at 69 km. In contrast, the Delhi Metro has expanded to nearly 400 km since then, he pointed out. He was addressing the employees on the occasion of Republic Day celebrations held at Metro Rail Bhavan here on Monday.
Mr. Ahmad spoke about the future growth and progress of HMRL. He noted that the past year has been particularly eventful, marked by the finalization of the decision to take over operations of the 69 km Phase 1 metro network.
According to a press release, Chief Electrical Engineer DVS Raju was present along with other senior officers and staff.
