“We got information that he (Shivam Mishra) is in Kanpur. Five teams were formed, we arrested him and he was produced before the court. On investigation, it was found that Shivam Mishra was driving the car during the accident,” he said.

The accident took place near Jhula Park Crossing on the afternoon of February 8 when a Lamborghini rammed into an autorickshaw, a motorcycle with a bullet and later hit a pole. Eyewitnesses claimed that the car was traveling at high speed at the time of the incident.

Driver Shivam Mishra on Wednesday admitted to driving a Lamborghini that rammed into an autorickshaw, a motorcycle with a bullet and then a pole, injuring one person, in Kanpur.

Driver Mohan said that Shivam Mishra was sitting next to him, had a seizure and fell on top of him.

Asked if Shivam Mishra was sitting next to him when he (Mohan) was driving the car, driver Mohan said, “…Yes. He (Shivam Mishra) had a fit. Suddenly his arms and legs started shaking and he fell on me. I was there (at the scene). I was there on the day of the accident. The bouncer pulled me (out of the car).”

Mishra’s lawyer Narendra Kumar Yadav said the driver had submitted an affidavit claiming responsibility for the accident.

“The victim and the plaintiff in the case settled and received all the compensation and after receiving it, he wrote a line below that he does not want any action in this case. Now that he has received the compensation, he does not want any action. Then who better to file a case than him? He himself identified the driver,” said Narendra Kumar Yadav.

However, earlier, Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said that Shivam Mishra is believed to be the driver based on the evidence collected so far, including CCTV footage.

“When Shivam’s name comes up in our investigation, it means we are satisfied that the driver was Shivam, so they can keep saying anything. We have the CCTV footage. His name has been included in the FIR,” he said.

A case was registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Sections 281, 125(a), 125(b) and 324(4). Sub-inspector Dinesh Kumar has been assigned the investigation.
