Bhuvneshwari Sreesanth, the wife of the former Indian stimulator Sreesanth, strongly criticized former chairman of IPL Lalit Modi and former Captain Australia Michael Clarke for reviving the infamous “slap” comprising Harbhajan Singh.
The controversy reappeared when Modi appeared on Clarke’s Beyond23 podcast and revealed that he held holding invisible shots quarrels from 2008. During the show, a clip was played, allegedly taken from the stadium security cameras. It turned out that Harbhajan hit Sreesanth with the back of his hand after the IPL collision between Indy Bombai and King Xi Pandjab (now Kings Pandjab).
Immediately after the incident, Sreesanth collapsed in tears in the field, a moment captured by broadcast cameras. Players of teammates and opposition, including former Captain Sri Lanka Mahel Jayawarden and the former Indian stimulus of Irfan Pathan, rushed to calm him down. The controversy shook the first season of the IPL and was later marked with “slap” in cricket circles.
Draging old wounds for cheap publicity
Bhuvneshwari responded to revive the clip and took the Instagram to give a sharp statement. She accused both modi and Clarke of persecution of attention by reopening the painful episode, from which both players moved.
“Shame on you, Lalit Modi and Michael Clarke. You are not even people to pull something out of 2008 just for your own cheap publicity and opinions. Both @sreesantnair36 and Harbhajan have long moved; @bhuvNESHWARI.SREESANTH
Over the years Harbhajan himself admitted The incident was one of his greatest regret, while Sreesanth repeatedly said he had given an episode behind. Both men have India together and share changing rooms. Both were playing 11 when India continued to win the T20 inauguration World Cup in South Africa in 2007.
Yet the podcast spread the shots widely across social media and triggered a new debate.
