Lakshya Sen produced a composed performance to beat former world champion Loh Kean Yew to book her place in the semi-finals of the Kumamoto Masters Japan 2025. Sen, the seventh seed and currently world No. 15, overcame Loh, the world No. 9, in straight games, 21-13, 21-17, in just 21-17 minutes. The win extends Sen’s lead over Loh to 7–6. The result is a significant boost for Sen, who recently finished runner-up at the Hong Kong Open in September and now moves forward to face Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in the semi-finals.
Sen took control early in the opening game and went into the break with an 11-8 lead. He then increased the pressure, stretching his advantage to 18-9 before sealing the game 21-13. Loh, who is experiencing a dip in form, struggled to counter Sen’s all-round game, which featured solid defense and well-timed attacking strikes.
In the second game, Loh showed more resistance and managed to keep the score at 9-9. Sen responded by turning up the intensity, stringing together six consecutive points to take a 15-9 lead. Loh tried to regain the momentum and narrowed the gap to 17-18, but Sen stayed level throughout the closing stages and finished the match in straight games.
Lakshya Sen’s tactical awareness and relentless pace proved decisive in both games. His ability to build an early lead and sustain the pressure forced mistakes from Loh, whose recent struggles with form have been evident.
Sen strategically capitalized on Loh’s hesitation and lack of confidence, especially at key moments. The Indian’s consistent shot selection and ability to adjust tempo prevented Loh from settling into any rhythm, turning the contest in Sen’s favor. Loh’s late push in the second game was met with calm defense and accurate placement from Sen.
Nishimoto is expected to present a new challenge for Sen as he looks to build on his recent form.
