Ladakh Marathon has more than 5,000 world runners; Participants promote anti-drug fitness
On Sunday, the next edition of the Ladash Marathon was held, in which more than five thousand runners from all over the world took part. This annual event, which is divided into three categories – a 45-kilometer section of the Silk Road, a 21-kilometer half-marathon and an eleven-point 5-kilometer run – has grown steadily since its inception following the devastating floods in Ladakh in 2010. It takes place at a high altitude and is recognized as the highest marathon in the world. Senior participant Ratan Singh shared his experience of completing the 21.2 kilometer half marathon in three hours and thirty seven minutes. He lauded the organizers, volunteers, media, police and defense forces for the smooth running of the events while urging the Indian youth to adopt fitness routines and stay away from drugs to build a healthier nation.
