Two backs to the rear fire and the magic in the recently built block of the Government Medical University Hospital in Kozhikode also caused a lack of employees and delay in creating new contributions that suffer from a leading medical institution that satisfies patients’ medical needs from at least five districts in northern Kerala.
Up to 151 patients had to be evacuated and shifted elsewhere after smoke pulled out of the UPS battery connected to the MRI scanning unit on the ground floor of the new building, built under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surraksha Yojana (Pmsy), at the night they reopen at night. He broke out at the operating theater on his sixth floor.
According to a part of the medical staff in the hospital, these incidents are also the result of a focus on creating new contributions in the new block. He claims that a similar situation prevails in a block of super-specificity and also a tertiary Cancer Center for Cancer and Research Institutes.
Along with this, there is a crisis related to the lack of employees across different blocks in the hospital. Sources say that there are 393 posts of doctors, 61 of which are unoccupied. There are 279 contributions to professors, of which 53 are unoccupied. Eight out of 61 contributions of associate professors are unoccupied. Of the 53 professors’ contributions, three are free. The ratio of the nurses, which was supposed to be 1: 4 ideally, is now reported to be 1:50. The hospital still monitors the pattern of employees developed at the age of 60, although the patient’s burden has increased over the years.
In a letter to the Medical Education Director in 2017, the then director of the Medical Faculty sought the creation of nine professors, 18 associate professors, 35 professors and 37 higher doctors in the PMSSY block. Last December, the hospital authorities again tried to create new functions in the building that was opened in 2023.
At the Tercary Cancer Center for cancer, one post of associate professor in radiotherapy and radiation physics and two positions of professionals was designed. One contribution of the main nurses, eight functions of employees and four posts of nurses assistants were created, along with those who medical staff. Sajith Cherandathur, chairman of the district district of Kozhikode, Kheral’s Government Department (Kgnu), says that a block of super-specificity, open in 1996, requires approximately 200-250 nurses from which none of which has been created.
Meanwhile, the government proposed to create 150 new contributions in the PMSSy block after recent incidents. Kgna officials point out that the deficiency is now either resolved by the regrouping of employees or by appointing temporary workers within the Society for the Development of the Hospital. They demanded that the government to appoint permanent employees through the Keral public service instead.
