The Chikkajala police arrested a laborer for beating his co-worker to death over a trivial argument over cooking non-vegetarian food in an under-construction building where they lived during Chhath Puja.
The incident took place at Navarathna Agrahara, Jala Hobli where accused Radheshyam Chauhan and deceased Shambu Thanti (48) were working.
According to police, Shambu Thanti, who hails from Bihar, observed Chhath Puja for a week and protested against Radheshyam preparing non-vegetarian food during the period. The duo got into an argument on Sunday night and complained about the problem to Surendra Pandit, their senior. Pandita reportedly pacified the duo and told them that he would resolve the issue the next day.
However, on Monday, when Pandita called Shambu Thanti the next day, he did not answer calls. He sent other workers to check on him, who found him lying dead in a pool of blood and Radheshyam missing. The accused allegedly called one of his associates and confessed that he was unable to bear the harassment and fight with Shambhu Thanti over non-vegetarian food and therefore beat him to death in his sleep and even strangled him to make sure he was dead.
Chikkajala police registered a case of murder and arrested Radheshyam.
