
The La28 organizational committee announced that the Exhibition Grounds in Pomona, South California, will host cricket at the Los Angeles Olympic Games (La28).
The cricket will return to the Olympic Games from 14 to July 30, which means its first performance since 1900. At that time, Great Britain faced France in a two -day match.
“The cricket (T20), a worldwide reputable sport, which was added to the Olympic Sports Program 2028 in 2023, debuts in South California at the Exhibition Grounds in Pomona in a temporary, purposeful structure,” the organizers announced.
Pomona is approximately 50 kilometers east of Los Angeles and the Exhibition Grounds, formally known as Fairplex, is a 500-Academ place that has since 1922 hosted by the Los Angeles County.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) welcomed this notice.
ICC chairman Jay Shah said in the edition: “We welcome the announcement of the place for cricket in Los Angeles 2028 because this is an important step to prepare for the return of our sport to the Olympics.”
“Although cricket is already a very popular sport, it is at the Olympics in a rapidly developing exciting T20 format represents a fantastic opportunity to expand its traditional boundaries and attract a new audience.”
The cricket was officially added to the Los Angeles Olympic program during the 141. IOC meeting in Mumbai in October 2023. He joined five other new sports in LA28: baseball/softball, flagship, lacrosse (six pages) and squash.
Six cricket teams will compete In men and women competitions at the La28 Olympics.
Sport was assigned 90 athletes quotas, allowing six -member competitions in both male and female events, each team included in 15 players. The qualifying criteria for these teams have to be completed.
The T20 format, which has recognized the ICC as a key controller of the global sport expansion, has been listed in recent years at other multi-sports events. The Asian Games in 2010, 2014 and 2023 included men and women competitions T20, while the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth was only a female tournament.
