“The information that they examined the bad knee is not true,” he told a news conference ahead of France’s match against Brazil in Foxborough, Massachusetts. “I can be indirectly responsible for this situation because when you don’t communicate what’s going on, it opens the door to different interpretations.”
Earlier in the week, RMC Sport, followed by several Spanish outlets, claimed the club failed to diagnose a partial ligament tear in his left knee after carrying out scans on his healthy right knee. The French international was injured late last year during a La Liga match against Celta Vigo.
However, after receiving the green light from the club’s medical staff, Mbappe started throughout January against Alaves, Talavera and Sevilla, which eventually brought the problem to light and led to his three-and-a-half week sideline.
He was later released back into the squad by coach Alvaro Arbeloa, coming on as a substitute in Real Madrid’s win over Manchester City in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, followed by a must-win performance against Atlético Madrid in the Madrid derby.
“I have never been and never will be a player who regrets things,” he added in Paris on Monday. “I’m focused on the present and the short-term future. I’m happy that I feel good in both knees. Part of that is thanks to my club. I’m very happy to be here, fit, fit and ready to contribute.”
Mbappe is now set to play for the French national football team in several international friendly matches against Brazil and Colombia in the United States as they continue their preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
