The Kula Vivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangham (KVPS) has condemned the police action against Anganwadi workers who have been staging a long-running protest here.
KVPS State President O. Nallappa and General Secretary Andra Malyadri said in a press release that police personnel arrived at the protest site around 5 am, extinguished the lights, dismantled tents and banners and forcibly arrested the anganwadi workers while they were sleeping. Leaders called the action undemocratic and a violation of fundamental rights.
They said that the anganwadi workers have been demanding wage hike and introduction of welfare measures since the tenure of the previous government.
They described the alleged mass arrest of thousands of anganwadi workers who peacefully staged a 30-hour dharna overnight as “shameful”, demanding a solution to their problems.
The KVPS also demanded the immediate release of all the arrested anganwadi workers and their leaders. She also urged the government to initiate immediate talks with the anganwadi union representatives to address their long-standing demand for wage hike and other service-related issues.
