An IndiGo flight carrying 228 passengers en route from Kuwait to Hyderabad made an emergency landing at the Mumbai airport on Tuesday after receiving a bomb threat, news agency ANI reported. Authorities have launched security checks and further details are awaited.
According to News18, authorities classified the threat as credible after the Hyderabad airport received a detailed warning email claiming that a bomb had been placed on board. Following the alert, the aircraft was diverted to Mumbai where it was moved to an isolation bay for a thorough inspection.
The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) here received an email threatening that “certain anti-social elements are planning to carry out an attack using remote-controlled explosive devices on board the aircraft once it lands in Hyderabad,” news agency PTI reported.
After the threatening email, authorities decided to divert the flight to Mumbai, where the plane landed safely, a police official said.
A security check was conducted and nothing suspicious was found, he said. Further investigation is underway.
According to available information, the IndiGo aircraft, which was scheduled to land at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport around 8:10 am, was instructed to change its course mid-air as a precautionary measure. The flight landed at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 7:45 am.
More details are awaited on the Kuwait-Hyderabad flight that landed in Mumbai after the human bomb scare.
