Sharath Ananthamurty, Vice -President (VC) from the University of Kuvemp, expressed concern that the exercise of intellectual property rights (IPR) to objects and ideas could go against the basic principles of democracy.

Sharath Ananthamurty, referring to the historical essay of the German philosopher Walter Benjamin, “a work of art at the age of mechanical reproduction,” said that mechanical reproduction changed the way to experience the art and distort the concept of unique and original.

Now, however, it could also be used for ideas. “The IPR concept could deny ordinary people the right to use many objects that they use regularly. This could be dangerous. I believe that IPR is a challenge ahead of us and we have to see it critically,” Stavil.
Furthermore, Mr. Sharath Ananthamurty felt that monitoring of the origin of an idea or object could be a difficult task. “Saris, which wears Indian women, is the result of Islamic influence. Similarly, thoughts that we believe were in Greece had references to our ancestors in India. At the same time, the Indians had business ties with China (sometimes, the efforts to trade the idea could end up as futile, claimed.
