Trains trains and Kumbakonam residents urged the Union government to sanction the new railway line between Needamangalam and Vriddhachalam via Kumbakonam and Jayamkonmam.
The new railway line, if built, would give the performance of economic growth in unpublished areas and spiritual tourism in the state, they said.
In this respect, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Minister of Railway Ashwini Vaishnaw by Kumbakonam All Traders Association and Thanjavur District Railway Userway Association were sent in this respect.
“The advantages of a new railway line less than 100 km between Needamangalam and Vriddhamiam would bring huge economic advantages,” says Sathanarayanan, secretary Kumbakonami All Traders Association.
The line could ensure connectivity with the Cholapuram gangaicond, where the famous Brihadisvara temple built by King Rajendra Chola I with the planned Prime Minister to visit the Cholapuram gangaram at the end of this month would now be appropriate for the Ministry of Railways to announce a new railway line, Sathanarayanan said.
Kumbakonami is important to the spiritual, commercial and historic city in Tamil Nadu. It is located in the section with the only line between Thanjavur and Villupuram on the 147 -year -old main line of the southern railway. The Mahamaham festival, known as Kumbh in the south, is celebrated every 12 years.
The city attracts the continuous flow of pilgrims from different parts of the country during the year, as it is also the center for visiting the Navagrah temples. Nevertheless, Kumbakonmam is neglected in terms of operation and development because he was not upgraded as an intersection.
The demand for this new line existed more than 50 years ago, and in 1955 the question was also raised in Parliament, said A. Giri, Secretary, Association of Railway Users Thanjavur. With regard to repeated demand, a preliminary survey was carried out in June 2016 for a new boundary between Kumbakoni and Vriddachalam. Since then, the project has been waiting for consent, he said.
The new boundary between Needamangalam and Vriddhamam via Kumbakonam will provide Mannargudi.
This would ensure a rapid movement of freight transport from the port of Karaikal and strengthened spiritual tourism because it would connect places like Kumbakonam and Gangaicond Cholapuram. By providing the connectivity of the train in developed places such as the Cholapuram, Jayamkondam and Andimadam gangaikonda, it would increase economic growth in the region, Mr. Giri added.
