Kumarapalayam constituency, 58 km from Namakkal town and known for its handloom units and spinning mills, was formed in 2008 by bifurcation of Tiruchengode and Sankari Assembly segments.
Many power weaving units in the constituency employ over 50,000 people while spinning mills provide employment to over 30,000. Covering Kumarapalayam taluk; Kumarapalayam and Pallipalayam municipalities; and Padaiveedu and Alampalayam town panchayats, the constituency elected P. Thangamani of the AIADMK in 2011, 2016 and 2021.
