The Kudumbashree Mission on Tuesday organized a ‘Children’s Parliament’ at the Old Legislature building to create awareness about parliamentary procedures, governance and constitutional principles.
Student representatives from 14 districts assumed the roles of prime minister, speaker, ministers and other members of parliament. An adjournment motion was moved during the session on issues related to cybercrime highlighting how common people have become victims of financial scams and how the spread of fraudulent videos has put common people in extreme distress.
A condolence proposal was taken to pay respects to former Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan and actor-screenwriter Sreenivasan.
Issues such as inadequate health facilities and sanitation, upliftment of students from coastal and Adivasi communities, dropout rates and gender discrimination in the employment sector were discussed.
Sithara Parveen from Malappuram said she was excited to be part of the children’s parliament at the state level. She said she personally prefers the district-level parliament as it provides two full days of interaction and self-development, while the options at the state level are limited.
After the session, participants had the opportunity to visit the Legislative Assembly.
