Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy said the BRS government had imposed traffic challans worth over ₹42 crore on auto drivers till December 2023 and now its working president KT Rama Rao was trying to project himself as their saviour.
Terming the recent ‘car campaign’ in Jubilee Hills as a political drama aimed at deceiving voters outside the polling booths, he said that Mr. Rama Rao had never once shown interest in the welfare of auto drivers, but suddenly remembered them for post-election polls.
Taking a jibe at BRS leaders for claiming that Telangana has “gone dark” under the current regime, he said it was ironic that he was coming from a party that had left the state in debt and destitution. “The government is trying to pay high interest on the indiscriminate loans obtained by BRS,” he added.
“The BRS leaders promised to make Telangana ‘New York’ but left the state midway. In just two years, the Congress government started desilting tanks, improving drainage and developing slum areas,” he said.
Referring to the project, Kaleshwaram claimed that “water went to KCR’s farm, funds went to his relatives and political contributions were shared among family members. Nothing beneficial reached the people.”
The MP also blamed the BRS government’s confrontational attitude with the Center for depriving Telangana of thousands of crores of central assistance. “Had the previous regime maintained cordial relations with the Union government, the state would have seen faster development,” he said.
