Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday slammed the Congress government for the disruption caused by the first heavy rain of the season in Hyderabad, alleging lack of pre-monsoon preparedness and neglect of precautionary measures usually taken before the monsoon.

The former Minister of Urban Administration and Urban Development said in a statement that the city’s infrastructure could not cope with the rain, resulting in severe traffic jams and inconvenience to commuters across the capital.

Expressing concern over the hardships faced by residents, especially women and office-goers who were reportedly stuck in traffic for several hours, Mr. Rao questioned the government’s handling of the situation and accused it of not responding quickly to citizens’ concerns.

Referring to initiatives launched during the previous government, BRS said programs like the Strategic Nala Development Program (SNDP) and the Strategic Road Development Program (SRDP) were designed to address urban flooding and traffic bottlenecks. He argued that the current administration has not built on these efforts.

Mr. Rao also expressed concern over reports of power cuts and electrocutions during the rains and accused the government of being indifferent to public welfare. He further alleged that the administration was focusing on land-related issues instead of strengthening civic infrastructure.

The BRS president warned of political fallout and said the people of Hyderabad will hold the Congress government accountable in the upcoming municipal elections. He described Hyderabad as the economic engine of Telangana and urged the government to prioritize urban infrastructure and public services.
