Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao has alleged that the Congress government in the state is planning to privatize the power sector by installing prepaid meters to consumers of all categories.

On Sunday, at a meeting of party representatives in Amberpet constituency, he reminded people that BRS had warned them that free electricity supply would be cut off if the Congress was voted to power, and exactly the same is now happening with pre-paid meters that were initially installed for the domestic sector.

He claimed that the government’s decision to join the Revised Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) introduced by the Center was aimed at installing meters in agricultural connections and prepaid energy meters for other categories of consumers. A decision was taken to privatize the power sector and hand over the distribution business to corporate companies such as the Adani Group.

The installation of meters in agricultural pump sets was part of the Congress government’s conspiracy to cut off free power supply to agriculture. He asked the people to disconnect the Congress fuse before installing pre-paid meters to domestic and other categories of consumers and agricultural connection meters in the name of metering consumption in the agricultural sector.

Mr. Rama Rao recalled that the BRS government had not agreed to install prepaid meters despite pressure from the Center and linking the borrowing limit of ₹30,000 crore to the move. Once prepaid meters are installed, people (consumers) will have to pay money in advance to use electricity even for their household needs, as is the case now with prepaid mobile phones, he warned.

Stating that the people were very angry with the Congress dispensation, he said that they were ready to teach the ruling party a befitting lesson whenever given an opportunity. He alleged that the Congress was resorting to widespread corruption and excesses and was unable to keep promises made indiscriminately.

He said that about 1,000 party (BRS) activists will soon be trained for membership and will be made aware of the failure of the Congress government, including its failure to deliver on promises, corruption, injustice and excesses on the people. He noted that membership will be completely digital this time around.

Mr. Rama Rao also criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s lecture on the future city by neglecting the existing city.
