The Student Union Committee of Keral (KSU) on Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, demanded a fee of 500 GBP fee, which was selected for newly received students under the name “150th anniversary of the fund”.
In the letter to the director, the Committee said that the fee was not included in the officially approved structure of academic fees. Rajeev Patric, President of the KSU unit, added that he was collected without proper administrative sanctions.
This practice violates the directives issued by the director of higher education, which prohibits the collection of unauthorized or non -aturist fees from students, especially during the admission process. The imposition of such additional and unauthorized fee discourages economically weaker students in search of acceptance. In fact, this creates a barrier for access and leads to indirect exclusion on the basis of financial background. According to the letter, the Committee called for an immediate return of the fee.
The university authorities stated that they had not forced any student to pay the amount. The decision on the collection of the fund was adopted by the Executive Committee created in connection with the celebrations of 150. However, they added that it was not compulsory and no student was denied acceptance for not paying him.
