A Kerala Students Union (KSU) leader’s house was reportedly attacked by a country bomb in Thiruvallur near Vadakara in Kerala’s Kozhikode district early on Friday morning. The attack, allegedly carried out by Communist Party of India (Marxist) workers, took place around 2.30 am at the house of KSU Kozhikode District Secretary Bithul Balan.
Police sources said the KSU leader, who was allegedly involved in the assault on Health Minister Veena George, has been remanded in judicial custody. The latest incident could be a reprisal as part of the nationwide agitation withdrawing the attack on the minister, they said.
As part of the ongoing investigation, police obtained CCTV footage of the incident. Police said they are trying to identify the suspects. They said a total of 36 cases have been registered in Kozhikode district in connection with various clashes between Congress and CPI(M) workers in the last two days.
Taking a swipe at the latest incident, Congress leaders alleged that the CPI(M) and its youth organizations were trying to “spread violence across the state in the name of a bogus incident”. They said they would visit the KSU leader’s house to review the situation.
