KSU head serves legal notice to MD private firm in Kannur

Kerala Students Union (KSU) State Vice President P. Mohammed Shammas has initiated legal action against Muhammad Asif, Managing Director (MD) of Carton India Alliance over what he termed as false and defamatory allegations that he demanded ₹5,000 to settle the dispute.

The dispute comes amid a wider controversy surrounding the Carton India Alliance and allegations of irregularities in contracts awarded during the tenure of former Kannur district panchayat president PP Divya. Shammas made allegations about the company’s ties to Ms Divya and the awarding of public contracts for construction work, prompting the state government to authorize a vigilante probe.

Mr Shammas has sent a legal notice to Asif, through advocate ER Vinod, demanding ₹7 crore as compensation for the alleged damage to his reputation and mental anguish caused by the statements.

According to the notice, the allegations spread through visual and social media claimed that Mr. Shammas was seeking ₹5,000 to settle the matter. The notice categorically rejects the claims as false, baseless and defamatory.

Mr. Shammas demands that Asif withdraw the allegations and issue a public apology on the same visual and social media channels through which they were circulated.

The legal notice warns that failure to comply with the requirements within seven days of receipt will invite Mr. Shammas to initiate appropriate civil and criminal proceedings.
