Kottayam city witnessed tense moments on Monday as Kerala Students Union (KSU) activists clashed with the police.
The incident took place in the morning during a march organized by a youth group to protest against alleged backdoor appointments by the LDF government, bypassing the PSC ranking. Police set up roadblocks to prevent the march. When the protesters tried to push past the barricades, the police resorted to violence to disperse the crowd.
Later in the day, Youth Congress activists tried to hoist black flags against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan when he arrived in Kottayam by helicopter. Attempts were also made to hoist black flags on his return from Kottayam Medical College.
