The KARNATAKA (KSPCB) Council is ready to present its report of the 370-megawatt (MW) gas-based gas plant in Yelahance to the Supreme Court in the next few days. The state of the operation of the full -time plant will depend on the Supreme Court judgment.
After many legal obstacles, the plant operated by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) was awarded the APEX court permit for operation for the period of six months from the date of commissioning. At this time, KSPCB was instructed to monitor the level of air pollution and noise near the plant. The six -month period ended in May 2025, the officials said.
“We have constantly monitored nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, particle levels (PM) and other parameters in the last six months. Before the plant was entered, we made basic measurements of these parameters and later measured them while the plant was functional.
The official also stated: “KPCL also has a continuous monitoring system of ambient air in the plant. We compared our data with their data.
The introduction of the race was delayed for several years for several reasons, including the case of the Yelahanka Puttenehalli Lake and Trust Conservation Trust (Yplbct), which concerned violations of environmental standards. In November 2023, the Top Court gave a nod for the trial period. The plant was formally launched by the main Minister Siddaramaiah in September 2024.
KS Sangunni, chairman of YPLBCT, said that although six months have passed, they did not receive any information about the level of pollution from KPCL or KSPCB. “The problems we have caused continue to persist and cause inconvenience to those who live in the area. We are waiting for information about when the report will be submitted,” he said.
Meanwhile, KPCL officials said the race was working and all the necessary parameters are monitored. The race has so far generated 922,784 million units of electricity.
To reduce the noise of pollution
During the race inauguration, Mr. Siddaramaiah assured the inhabitants of the nearby that concerns about noise pollution would be effectively addressed.
KPCL officials said their noise alleviation measures are approaching completion. “We installed acoustic blinds and acoustic barriers in the cooling tower and steam ventilation.
