The State Regulatory Committee for Electricity Keral (KSERC) has decided to expand the public hearing about its proposal for renewable energy regulation with regard to the huge reaction of the parties involved.
The Commission scheduled further hearing in the online mode at 2 pm on July 15 and also 17 July, said the secretary (responsible) panel on Thursday.
The Commission originally decided to organize hearing in online mode from July 8 to July 11. 9 July was later postponed until July 16 with regard to a general strike called trade unions.
The purpose of the proposal of the KSERC regulations (renewable energy and related matters) is to replace the 2020 regulations, which expired in 2024-25. According to the Commission, it is focused on supporting renewable energy in Kerala “in accordance with the objectives of national and state renewable energy (RE) and pure zero obligations”.
However, many provisions in the proposal have triggered sharp criticism since the prosumer and other parties involved, which have described this proposal in various ways as regressive and premature.
