The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has submitted proposals for setting up EV charging stations at 128 locations under the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme.
The proposals submitted to the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) cover a total subsidy entitlement of ₹153.43 crore, according to KSEB.
The PM e-DRIVE scheme is aimed at accelerating the introduction of electric cars and strengthening the charging infrastructure network and the electric car production ecosystem. The scheme offers 100% central financial assistance to eligible projects on a first-come, first-served basis through state-appointed nodal agencies.
The Kerala government appointed KSEB as the state’s nodal agency in October this year.
A senior KSEB official attached to the company’s EV Accelerator Cell said KSEB’s proposals for MHI cover higher capacity EV charging stations that can cater for e-trucks.
KSEB has mandated the EV Accelerator Cell to implement the scheme in Kerala. The decision was based on consideration of the scope and technical complexity of the project. The Chief Engineer (Renewable Energy and Energy Savings) will have overall oversight of the system.
