The first meeting on the ‘Krushi Road Map’, an initiative of the Government of India to achieve 15% growth in Gross Value Added (GVA) in agriculture, was held in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
An eight-member committee headed by Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers, met at the office of the Director of Agriculture in Mangalagiri.
The ‘Krushi Road Map’ was formulated with the support of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at the request of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to accelerate agricultural growth in line with the Swarna Andhra State Vision @2047.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive Officer and Special Principal Secretary (Agriculture and Cooperation) Budithi Rajasekhar, who presided over the meeting, said that nearly 35% of Andhra Pradesh’s Gross Domestic Product (GSDP) depends on the primary sector. While social welfare programs for farmers continued, the state focused on structural transformation to increase farm incomes and value added.
He highlighted plans to develop Rayalaseema as a global horticultural hub, with an additional six million hectares proposed to be converted to horticulture in the next three years.
The discussion focused on promoting millets, expanding pulses, oilseeds and oil palm cultivation, using fallow land, enhancing value addition, supporting farmers’ organizations with modern equipment and improving drought resilience through micro-irrigation, rainwater harvesting and agro-voltaics.
The state also sought central support for infrastructure creation and technology deployment.
Mr. Sanjay Kumar Agarwal ensured full central assistance with emphasis on convergence of central and state schemes, systematic planning and promotion of value based crops to increase GST and farm income. The committee also undertook field visits in Guntur district.
