KRRS is against the privatization of electricity supply

Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Green Brigade strongly opposed the state government’s move to privatize electricity supply in 19 districts.

At a press conference in Shivamogga on Saturday (May 30, 2026), KRRS state president HR Basavarajappa said the organization was against privatization of power distribution.

The distribution network, comprising substations, feeders, machinery and other infrastructure worth thousands of crores of rupees, was a public asset built up over decades, and handing it over to a private company would mean transferring that asset to serve private interests.

He further opined that privatization would phase out social programs like free power supply to irrigation pumps, beneficiaries of Bhagya Jyothi and Kuteera Jyothi schemes. In addition, electricity supplier employees would lose their jobs. He appealed to the government not to transfer electricity distribution to private companies.
