HYDERABAD
D. Krishna Bhaskar, a 2012 batch IAS officer, took over as the Chairman and Managing Director of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) on Tuesday. He took over from outgoing officer N. Balram, who is repatriating to his parent cadre, IRS, after a seven-year stint with Singareni.
Mr. Krishna Bhaskar will hold the post of SCCL CMD as additional charge as he serves as CMD of Transmission Corporation of Telangana Ltd (TG-Transco) and also as Special Secretary to Deputy Chief Minister and Finance and Power Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
Mr. Balram joined Singareni in 2018 as Deputy Director (Finance) and served as CMD for the past two years after the Congress formed the government in the state. The change of guard at Singareni comes at a time when the state-owned public sector enterprise is planning a major diversification and expansion, including exploration for rare earth minerals.
Besides foraying into thermal and solar power generation in Telangana, the company is planning thermal and solar power generation in Rajasthan and Odisha, where it started coal mining in the Naini block earlier this year. The company also plans to enter geothermal energy production, coal and rare earth mineral exploration in other countries.
