
Kozhikode is approaching the heels of its recent recognition of the World Health Organization (WHO) -S Membership in the global network of cities friendly cities is constantly proceeding to become a truly environmentally friendly city. The action plan to achieve this goal was recently approved by the Kozhikode Corporation Council Council and is expected to be fully implemented over the next four months.
The action plan, in accordance with the eight key directions recommended by the recommended WHO, will be carried out in cooperation with the Samanvaya program.
It is divided into several areas of focus: seniors’ health, psychosocial support, social participation, respect and social inclusion, civic participation and employment, communication and information, transport, housing and outdoor premises and buildings.
One of the main goals is to strengthen access to health care for all ages 60 or more. This includes the provision of medical services for doors, the establishment of geriatric departments in hospitals, the supply of the necessary medical equipment and the provision of laboratory services that are made available at home. To ensure psychosocial support, the plan includes therapeutic counseling, psychiatric services, telemedicine facilities, dementia clinics and recreational trips for seniors.
Senior clubs will play a key role in supporting social participation. Qualified experts among older people will be involved in various activities. The plan also includes art and cultural groups, literary events, competitions and sports meetings.
There are also various initiatives, including campaigns with legal awareness of injustice facing older, seniors, seniors of help at police stations and legal adalat.
Citizens will also be encouraged to do business. The pension payments will be ensured and the candidates will be included in the employment warranty. Efforts to provide training in new technologies, innovative ideas and research will be developed.
The data collected through surveys conducted within the Samanvaya program will be used to streamline the action plan. It should be noted that Kozhikode was declared a “older” city in 2022 and the initiatives performed at that time played a key role in ensuring the recognition.
