
KK Rajaram, District Medical Officer (DMO), Kozhikode, has issued a warning against NIPAH infection due to two cases reported from Malappuram and Palakkad in recent days.
On Monday (July 7, 2025), it was reported that although no cases from the district have been reported yet, those who have symptoms must contact healthcare professionals. Fruits and vegetables bitten birds and animals should not be consumed. If someone comes into contact with the excretion of birds or animals, they have to wash their hands thoroughly with soap. Fallen fruit should not be used. Fruits and vegetables should be properly washed before consumption.
Toddy should also be prevented from coconut trees and palm trees in areas of populated bats. Food and water should be kept in airtight containers and nose and mouth should be covered with a handkerchief during sneezing and coughing, and those involved in patient care should take personal protective measures.
