Kozhikode Corporation will continue to crack down on illegal spa operators

February 13, 2026

Inspections launched by the Kozhikode Corporation’s health wing failed to track down many illegal spa operators as most of them reportedly locked their leased facilities and vacated the premises when they came to know about the drive. Some operators are said to have removed their boards and turned off their phones.

Owners of several licensed units welcomed the flash checks and said checks needed to be expanded across the district. They said several illegal operators even lacked proper addresses or trained therapists.

Several Ayurvedic practitioners have also alleged that illegal spa operators are trying to attract customers. They said their association sought action against such units.

Meanwhile, sources in the corporation said the blitz inspections were just the beginning of a more intensive action plan to detect illegal operators on the ground. They said those who rent out their premises to unlicensed businesses will be held accountable.

Police sources said details of therapists at spa centers will be scrutinized to rule out attempts at human trafficking.
