Kozhikode Corporation plans to address the Indian National Highway (NHAI), which is looking for a solution for penetration on the basis of some places under its jurisdiction, where the National Highway 66 is expanded.
Wednesday (May 28, 2025) was submitted for this purpose. She pointed out that people living in low -laid areas faced many problems due to heavy rain, which has been whipping Kozhikode in the last few days. She said that the inhabitants of Olavann, Palazhi and Malapparamba near the National Highway were among the worst hits.
However, the opposition members, such as KC SHOBITHA and K. MOIDEEN KOYA, claimed that the submission was not submitted in the correct format and that it did not mention the role of central and state governments in the construction of the highway. They argued that the state government was equally responsible for the current situation. This has led to some arguments between members of the decision and the opposition. Mr. Moideen Koya also said that the submission of the proposed unified democratic front seeking steps to clean up cracks developed on the national highway was rejected.
Mayor of Beea Philip, who chaired the meeting, said the steps would be taken to solve problems such as waterlogging water near the National Highway, and that the members could approach corporation with details. She would supply the Ministry of Road Transport and Motorways, she added.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Shebitha demanded that the inspection of the State Electrical Inspectorates be mandatory in all buildings owned by corporations with regard to the recurring focus of the fire in the city. She also suggested that the corporations approach the state government and seek steps to strengthen the fire and rescue system in the Kozhikode district. A member of the government party Suesh also raised similar requirements.
Mrs. Philip said that the corporation would ask the state government to distribute 30 cents to set up a fire station near a government medical university hospital. Fire hydrants would be installed in different parts of the city. A satellite fire station would be built at the Palayam bus stand, she added.
The meeting also witnessed some tense moments when the members of the opposition organized a protest against the transfer of items listed on the agenda. Opposition members said that because the items should not be handed over without discussion and the meeting should be closed by 18:00, some of them could be postponed for the next day. Only approximately 140 out of 205 items could be discussed until 17:45. Opposition members also stated that they would move from the meeting after 18:00 for 18 hours, the deputy mayor of Musafir Ahmed stated that all items could be handed over without discussion in time. This led members of the opposition to protest.
There were some apparent arguments between the mayor and the mayor’s deputy. All items were declared handed over during melee because the meeting was closed around 18:30
