Kozhikode Corporation is going to declare itself first in the state that it is without extreme poverty. The main step towards this goal was carried out by handing over 32 free flat units in the housing complex of Kalluthankadava to families identified as facing extreme poverty. Minister for Local Self -Government MB Rajesh handed the apartments for an event held on Saturday, April 19 at the town hall in Kozhikod.
On this occasion, the Minister stated that the project to eradicate extreme poverty was the first of its kind in the country and that no other state took such an initiative in India. He added that the accession of online services from anywhere in the world significantly increased the revenues of local authorities in the state.
Mr. Rajesh also launched a project for building houses for 25 families under the PMay-Life program. For this purpose, the company buys 84 cents of land in Nelllikode. Each family receives 3 cents of land and 5.25 ₹ Lakh to build a house. Further funds will be obtained through the schemes of department stores in the field of social responsibility (CSR). 32 families assigned flat units in Kalluthankadava will also receive the necessary furniture and other equipment. The company will cover their water and electricity accounts for a specified period.
Through a corporation survey, she identified 814 people facing extreme poverty in the city. Different projects have started to increase them. As part of the initiative, 650 people are distributed daily and 659 individuals receive medical attention. So far, a means of subsistence has been provided within the project. The aim is to declare the city without extreme poverty until November 2025.
