Kozhikode became the first district in Kerala, which completed the registration of ID Universal Insability ID (UDID) in the Tanmudra campaign of the Ministry of the Ministry of Social Justice. A total of 57,766 different people were registered, which meant the main milestone in the inclusion of the disability.
The UDID project, which was launched to provide a single nationwide digital identification card for people with disabilities, was actively implemented in Kozhikode with the support of the NSS volunteers. The district, which records one of the highest number of different persons in Kerala, now leads a registration ride.
In 2019, the district survey identified almost 57,000 people with disabilities. By April 2024, however, only about 44,000 people were registered on the Swavlamban portal. Tanmudra Drive helped to close this gap and bring the remaining recipients to the system.
Kozhikode is home to several rehabilitation centers, inclusive schools and community groups that played a key role in supporting the campaign. Officials stated that registration will allow recipients to gain access to social care systems, medical assistance and other social justice programs.
Minister of Higher Education and Social Justice R. Bindu told the media that Kozhikode will be officially declared on Saturday 23rd August as the first fully registered district.
