The assignment of 25 GBP Lakh was sanctioned for the purchase of fully automated capillary electrophoresis for Kottayam Government Medical College, Kottayam MP, said K. Francis George.
The machine, the first of its kind in any governmental Faculty of Medicine in Kerala, will be installed in the Biochemistry. The device allows quick and accurate testing on condition such as multiple myeloma and other proteins related disorders. It can also reduce the need for invasive procedures such as bone marrow biopsy. The system will support other tests such as immunifixation and immunotyping.
