
Development projects worth ₹283 crore, including a new surgical block, will be inaugurated at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) in Kottayam on Monday.
According to Minister for Cooperatives and Devaswom VN Vasavana, the new facilities will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at 3 pm.

The new ₹ 257 crore surgical block with a built-up area of over 33,642 sq m and funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) has 526 beds, 44 ICU beds and 14 operating theatres. It is equipped with advanced medical technology, including a 256-slice CT scan, a 3 Tesla MRI, a state-of-the-art digital radiography machine and fluoroscopy equipment.
Other major projects include a categorical laboratory set up at a cost of ₹7.88 million, the first phase of a non-physician hostel completed at a cost of ₹6 million, a 32-unit CT scanning system set up in the cancer block at a cost of ₹4.28 million, renovation of the main entrance to the unit at a cost of ₹1.28 million and a new 2 and 2 mother care. gynecology department at a cost of ₹1.2 million.
The foundation stone for a new toilet block to be constructed at a cost of ₹74 lakh in ABC block will also be laid during the event. Skin bank (64.57 lakh), crèche (60 lakh), lactation management center (64.2 lakh), cardiac rehabilitation unit equipment, Echo machine, CAM machine and ventilators, set up with CSR funds, will also be inaugurated on Monday.
