
Kolkata Police has announced traffic restrictions across the city in connection with the Portathon scheduled for December 7. Measures aimed at ensuring public safety and the smooth running of the event will take place from 4:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or until the end of the program.
Invoking powers under the Motor Vehicles Act, the Kolkata Police Act and the West Bengal Traffic Regulations Act, Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma said all types of trucks would face movement restrictions on several key roads in the city.
Key limitations include:
2nd Hooghly Bridge: Traffic from the bifurcation towards Hastings on ramp and from Howrah via 11 Furlong Gate and Ghorapass will be restricted.
Major roads affected: CGR Road (from Ramnagar via Eastern border), DH Road (from Pailan via Northern border), Satya Doctor Road, GR Road, Clyed Row, St. Georges Gate Road, Khidderpore Road, Alipore Road, AJC Bose Road (from Hastings Crossing to Mullick Bazar), New Road, Dufferina Avenue, Casubound Road, Red Road, Loarversin Road, Casu Bardhaman Road, Garden Reach Flyover and CGR Road.
Kolkata Maidan area: Roads including Khidderpore Road, Casuarina Avenue, Queensway, Red Road, Bardhaman Road, Garden Reach Flyover and CGR Road will be closed for vehicular traffic from 4 am to 1 pm.
Other limitations include:
AJC Bose Road will remain open west of Belvedere Road junction, except for vehicles heading towards 2nd Hooghly Bridge and St. Georges Gate Road/Strand Road.
Eastbound traffic on CGR Road will be suspended at the Satya Doctor Road crossing.
All traffic from crossing St. Georges Gate Road/Clyed Row southbound will be restricted.
Westbound vehicles on Khidderpore Road will not be allowed to proceed towards Hastings crossing.
Vehicular movement on the Hastings ramp will be restricted to devotees only.
Traffic police may divert vehicles from any arterial or feeder road as needed during the event.
