The exhibition will give fans another chance to see the former stars of the Spanish giants together on Indian soil after Real Madrid Legends’ victory in Mumbai last year. With Luis Figo, Carles Puyol and Iker Casillas among the expected names, the competition could be a major occasion for a city with a long association with world football.
Kolkata will host Barcelona vs Real Madrid Legends
West Bengal Sports Minister Indranil Khan on Tuesday announced that Barcelona Legends and Real Madrid Legends will meet on November 25 at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, popularly known as Salt Lake Stadium. The official squads are yet to be confirmed, although Portuguese great Figo, who represented both Spanish rivals during his playing career, and former Barcelona captain Puyol are among the prominent names expected to feature alongside Spanish World Cup winner Casillas. This will be the second time that the legends of the two clubs will meet in India after their meeting at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai last year. Real Madrid Legends won that match 2-0, with former striker Fernando Morientes and David Barral scoring the goals. The two teams also met in Miami earlier in 2026, where they played out a 1-1 draw in which Martin Montoya scored for Barcelona and Álvaro Negredo found the net for Real Madrid. Their clash in Kolkata will now bring the exhibition rivalry to another Indian city, with the final line-ups yet to be confirmed. For fans, the attraction is that familiar names from two of football’s most famous clubs are once again sharing the same pitch. Figo’s unusual association with both sides adds another layer of interest, while the prospect of Puyol and Casillas appearing gives fans another reason to keep an eye on the team’s official announcement.
Barcelona returns to Kolkata after eight years
Barcelona’s visit will mark their first appearance in Kolkata since September 2018 when they faced Indian football giants Mohun Bagan at the same stadium. The Catalans won the match 6-0, with Javier Saviola, Roger Garcia, Pedro Landi, Jari Litmanen and Jofre Mateu among the scorers.Kolkata has hosted some of the biggest names in football for several decades and has earned a reputation as one of India’s most dedicated football cities. One of the most memorable occasions came in 1977 when Brazilian legend Pelé led the New York Cosmos against Mohun Bagan at the Eden Gardens, while German giants Bayern Munich visited the city in 2008 to play the Kolkata club in a friendly. The city also hosted Lionel Messi’s only appearance on Indian soil in 2011 when Argentina faced Venezuela at the Salt Lake Stadium. More recently, the venue hosted first-class international friendlies in early October 2026, when India took on five-time world champions Brazil and two-time World Cup winners Uruguay.November’s exhibition will add another significant piece to that history, bringing together two clubs whose rivalry has captivated football fans across generations. Although the teams remain unconfirmed, Calcutta’s latest football event already has a clear attraction: another chapter of El Clasico, this time with the legends who helped make it famous.
