
Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) showed a substantial increase in its operating profit for the financial year 2024-25, indicating the third consecutive year of reaching the operating surplus, says the edition.
The metro agency registered an operating profit of CZK 33.34 in 2024-25, which is an increase in Crore by 10.4 GBP in the previous year. Success is emphasized by a remarkable turn from the early years of operation. In 2017–18, in the year when Metro Kochi launched services, CRORE was operating 24.19 GBP. The operating loss in 2018–19 decreased to CRORE 5.70 GBP and in 2020–21 again increased to CRORE 13.92 GBP and further to 56.56 crore. The loss subsequently decreased to 34.94 GBP in 2021–22.
Profit
The main breakthrough came in 2022–23, when KMRL moved from operating loss to profit, recorded the surplus of CRORE 5.35 GBP. This positive trajectory continued until 2023–24, with an operating profit of 22.94 Crore, and now in 2024–25 it has been strengthened with an operating profit of 33.34 Crore.
In the financial year 2024–25, the metro generated operational income CRORE 182.37 GBP. Of which 111.88 GBP came from ticket income, while the CRORE 55.41 GBP was obtained from unreal sources such as ads. In addition, KMRL earned 1.56 GBP Crore from consulting services and CRORE 13.52 GBP from other different sources. Operating expenses for the year were CRORE 149.03 GBP.
It is important to note that operating profit is calculated after the exclusion of certain capital and financial costs such as interest, depreciation and expenditure related to clumsy transport infrastructure, including road construction.
