
Kochi Corporation’s budget for 2025–26 was approved in the middle of opposition protests and on Thursday, March 27, 2025).
The opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) was from the beginning of the Council meeting in arms and claimed that the details of the social responsibility of the company (CSR) received by the company were missing from the budget documents. When the mayor M. Anilkucar signed up for the answer, UDF reportedly insisted that the deputy mayor of Ka Ansiya, who introduced the budget.
When their demand did not get rid of, the opposition councilors went out and lifted the slogans to protest. They also questioned the alleged omission of CRORE 11 GBP, which the company received as Funds of CSR from budget documents.
Congress councilor Antony Kureethar and MG Aristotle searched for details of accounts for activities performed during the fiscal year 2024–25. After their internship, the budget was approved and the mayor left Hall Council.
Later, during a press conference, the mayor allegedly accused the opposition of the deliberate disturbance of attempts to respond to their questions on the floor of the Council. He claimed that the opposition was trying to sabotage many development projects beneficial to the city.
“CSR funds either directly contributed to the corporation’s account, or spent on various projects with consent. Some funds are also used through recognized civil body agencies.” Anilkumar asked how the opposition could insist on including details of funds spent directly by companies in budget documents.
Bharatiya Janata (BJP) accused the mayor of abandoning the chairman without waiting for a budget discussion vote, despite the written request of the Minister of Corporation. The way the party claimed was a violation of the rules.
“The company is ready to implement the health insurance system for Harith Karma Sena members, which will also be provided uniforms and vehicles. In the second phase, authorickshaw operators will be covered, followed by a gradual expansion to the entire working class,” said Anilkumar.
In addition, it was to propose a budget for health cards, medical camps and treatment of waste collection workers, head workers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and Kudumbashree members.
