The Kochi City Police registered 30 cases of alleged use and possession of suspected narcotics during a special combing operation conducted in various parts of the city on Saturday (November 8, 2025) night.
In all cases, the suspected drugs were seized in small quantities, which vary depending on the nature of the substances as defined under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), police sources said.
Police also detained 140 people for alleged drunken driving during the event. A total of 28 cases have been registered under the Abkar Act on charges including illegal storage and transportation of liquor. “Action has been taken against 212 offenders in the drive. The operation will continue in the coming days,” District Superintendent of Police (Kochi City) Putta Vimaladitya said on Sunday (November 9, 2025).
The city police have been carrying out intensive anti-drug drives on weekends in recent weeks. According to police sources, the surveillance focused on bar hotels that host DJ parties.
