The Captain of the Indian Astronaut Group Shaubhanshu Shukla, who became the first Indian to go to the International Space Station (ISS) at Axiom Mission 4 (AX-4), said on Friday that the knowledge he acquired during the 20-day Gaganyaan Human Spaceflight program.
The Captain of the Shukla Group, one of the four astronauts selected for the Gaganyaan mission, shared the first time after returning to Earth the peaks of the AX-4 mission.
“I remember the homework I gave our Prime Minister Narendra Modi to document everything we did here (in ISS) because we would need it for our Gaganyaan mission. I can assure you that I did it.

He added that the success of the AX-4 mission is already visible from the reactions of Indian students during the field meetings held with a student community during his stay in an orbiting laboratory.
“They asked questions about how astronauts could become and what they had to do to get into the space of space missions, and that is the real success of this mission for me. I am extremely satisfied with the result of this mission,” he said.
Shukla’s captain was a pilot of the AX-4 mission. Together with his commander Peggy Whitson from the USA, a specialist on Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski from Poland and a specialist in the Tibor Kapu mission from Hungary, spent 18 days in ISS on July 15.
During her stay in the ISS, the crew completed over 60 research activities and 23 off -road events. The captain of the Shukla group was also assigned seven experiments with microgravity from India.
“All experiments were brought back and were sent to scientists back home and at the right time we will start to come up with findings and results,” he said.
Rehabilitation program
Shukla’s captain has also undergone a weekly rehabilitation program that, after returning to Earth, alleviated any adverse effect of microgravity.
“There is a properly curatorial rehabilitation program and step by step you get your strength, balance, and there are the exercises and protocols we follow. My rehabilitation went great and today, when I sit in front of you, I feel perfectly normal and ready for another space mission,” he said.
