The Kurnool Municipal Corporation has decided to crack the whip on owners of unauthorized buildings who do not apply for Building Penalty Scheme (BPS) before the scheme ends on March 11.
In a recent review of the progress of BPS and Layout Regulation Scheme (LRS) in the city, KMC Commissioner P. Viswanatha said that though 20,000 unauthorized buildings were identified, notices were served to only 9,000 owners by February 19. He directed officials to complete the process of serving notices to the remaining 11,000 first identified building owners. He wanted the identified buildings to be marked “BPS-2025” in red.
Mr. Viswanatha asked the officials to explain to the owners of unauthorized buildings and plans the action that will be taken against such buildings or plans after the BPS and LRS scheme ends.
Mr Viswanatha said he would soon launch surprise checks in the city and take action against officials concerned, including the planning secretary and building inspectors, who fail to deliver notices of identified owners.
Meanwhile, KMC received ₹11.84 crore revenue through 2,501 LRS applications, while another ₹1.92 crore was generated from 912 BPS applications. Company officials said they identified 360 unauthorized layouts.
