KL Rahul to stay at Delhi Capitals? DC co-owner dismisses IPL 2027 trade rumours

KL Rahul looks set to continue with Delhi Capitals for the 2027 IPL season, ending speculation that he might leave the franchise following Rishabh Pant’s return to Delhi. Rahul’s future became a topic after Pant returned from Lucknow Super Giants to Delhi Capitals. With DC bringing back their former captain and marquee keeper, questions have been raised as to whether there is still room for Rahul in the franchise’s plans.

These doubts have led to Rahul being linked with a move to several teams, with Kolkata Knight Riders emerging as one of the strongest contenders. KKR are looking for a proven batsman and potential leadership after the departure of Ajinkya Rahane, so Rahul is an obvious name for them to consider. However, the speculation seems to have been settled long before the IPL 2027 mini-auction.

Delhi Capitals confirmed Rahul’s continuation with the franchise before co-owner Parth Jindal reinforced the news with a post on X. Jindal described Rahul as a key part of DC’s plans and hinted that the franchise still had unfinished business with the Indian star. “KL IS KLUTCH FOR @DelhiCapitals – one of the nicest guys I know & one who always puts team before himself. We have unfinished business & will work hard to make Delhi proud @IPL,” Jindal wrote.

Responding to Jindal’s post, Rahul thanked the DC co-owner and made it clear that he was looking forward to another season with the franchise.

“Thank you, can’t wait for the upcoming season,” Rahul wrote.

RAHUL AN IMPORTANT COG IN THE WHEEL OF DC

Rahul has become an important cog in the wheels of Delhi Capitals since joining the franchise. He crossed the 1,000-run mark in his first two seasons and proved to be one of their most consistent performers with the bat.

Keeping him alongside Pant gives DC a strong Indian batting core and more importantly more flexibility in how they use both players.

WITH Breathing pants as a primary defense optionRahul can only focus on his batting. This could allow him to settle into a specialist role at the top of the order and take on more responsibility for setting up DC’s innings.

The prospect of Rahul and Pant opening together also gives the Capitals an experienced combination. Both have played extensively for India and bring considerable experience to a batting line-up that has lacked consistency in recent seasons.

For a franchise that has been struggling to make it to the playoffs, retaining Rahul could prove to be an important decision. Pant may have returned to Delhi as a headline addition, but Rahul remains a key piece of the Capitals’ puzzle.
