KL Rahul broke the 150-man club in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday as the Delhi Capitals batsman grabbed two wasted opportunities with both hands to reach the highest score by an Indian in the tournament’s history. Rahul, who opened the batting, finished on 152 not out off just 67 balls, studded with 16 fours and nine sixes at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Rahul turned what was a rescue act into a personal milestone when he came to the crease after the early fall of Pathum Nissanka. During his time at the crease, Nitish Rana provided Rahul with perfect support at the other end with a 44-ball 91 including 11 fours and four sixes. The duo added 220 runs for the second wicket – the second highest partnership in the IPL.
Only Chris Gayle (175) and Brendon McCullum (158) are ahead of Rahul in the list of highest individual scores in the IPL. In the process, Rahul scored his sixth IPL hundred, equaling Gayle and also moved to sixth position in the overall run-scorers, surpassing the legendary MS Dhoni.
